2022 Design Trends

Two thousand twenty-one has been put to rest and 2022 is bright on the horizon with exciting new home decorating ideas. What can you look forward to in terms of updated design trends?

As the world’s awareness of global warming, climate change and an overall concern for the environment continues to increase, there is a growing movement for a conscious approach to home design and décor. Designers are incorporating more natural materials including bamboo, cork, and stone, while homeowners are shopping with an eye toward longevity in everything from soft goods to furniture.

Spending so much time at home has made us realize how important it is to feel comfortable in our surroundings. And nothing says comfort more than allowing your own individual personality to shine through in your home décor. One of the easiest ways to do this is with color. Grays have had their time in the spotlight and the key colors for 2022 are here to help us feel connected to nature while offering a spark of much needed optimism.

When you look at the 2022 Pantone colors, one thing is obvious, they all remind you of spring and new beginnings. The 2022 Color of the Year, Very Peri, a warm blue with light undertones of purple, the very sophisticated yet serene Gossamer Pink, and Basil, a rock solid green, all radiate health, wellness and warmth. Add in some touches of Daffodil, as bright and joyful as the name implies, or Coco Mocha to create a sense of earthly calm.

Embrace an eco-friendlier lifestyle by designing a relaxing outdoor sanctuary. For enclosed decks adding weather resistant curtains can create an illusion of a separate living space, while providing filtered shade when the sun is high. Offer privacy to a patio by installing shrubs, fencing or lattice. Practical flooring options range from wood decking, poured concrete, decorative tile or even a thick layer of gravel.  Allow your lifestyle to dictate your furniture choices but don’t forget the little homey touches including flowering plants, rugs, lamps, element friendly artwork, throw pillows and more.

Outdoor kitchens are also a huge draw for 2022. Tile counters provide plenty of workspace for mid-week meals. While a built-in gas grill, refrigerator, sink, and dishwasher make prep and clean-up a breeze. Tuck in a bistro set, upscale picnic table or house worthy dining room table and chairs and you may never eat indoors again!
